German Sign Language Dictionary of Technical Terms: Psychology
This is a follow-up project to the project "Development of new methods and learning material for the vocational support of the deaf in the technical area of computer technology". On the basis of previous results a further sign language dictionary of technical terms for the area of Psychology will be developed and established.
Aim of the project is the development of:
- a handbook of the most important terms in psychology, explanations in simple language and illustrations of the signs (stills),
- a CD
version of the handbook which shows the signs in dynamic visualisation (films)
- a video-version for the acquisition of the special signs on psychology.
Until now existing deficits in particular in the psychological care of the deaf, could not be sufficiently covered even with the help of qualified translaters, as there was a complete dependence on the direct communicative understanding of those affected; this problem was made very clear within the framework of now completed project "Medical rehabilitation of psychic disturbances of the hearing impaired." The development of a specialist dictionary of signs for the area of psychology therefore has a similar key function for the (also vocational) integration of the deaf as the already completed dictionary of computer technology; like this it aims for the preparation of a relevant phonetic speech accompanying sign language and is suitable for supporting the vocational integration of the hearing impaired.
